Pillar Candle Care

Pillar candles are designed to burn differently from candles in vessels. On the first burn, allow the wax to melt almost to the edge while leaving a small outer wall or around 5mm. This helps the candle form a protective shell to contain the melted wax as it burns.

Before relighting, remove any loose charred wick tip if needed - a gentle pinch is often enough.

As the candle nears the end of its life, the remaining outer wall may soften or collapse. This is normal for a pillar candle. Always burn on a suitable heat-resistant candle plate or holder to catch any wax.

Dinner Candle Care

Always place dinner candles upright in a secure, heat-resistant holder before lighting.

If the candle is slightly too wide for the holder, gently soften the very base before fitting it so that it sits firmly and upright.

A candle-fitting wax or suitable candle adhesive can also be used where needed.

Keep dinner candles away from draughts, as moving air can encourage uneven burning and dripping.

Trim the wick to approximately 5mm before lighting and before each subsequent burn.

Cotton Wick Care

For cotton wicks, trim the wick to approximately 5mm before each burn.

A neatly trimmed wick produces a steadier flame, and in the case of natural candles a cleaner burn and, less or no soot.

Wooden Wick Care

Wooden wicks are a little different.

Hold the flame to the wick for a few seconds while it catches fully.

Unlike cotton wicks, they rarely need trimming. If necessary, simply remove any loose char once the wick has cooled.

Burn Time

For the most enjoyable burn, allow your candle to burn for no longer than around four hours at a time before allowing it to cool completely.

Towards the End

When around 5mm of wax remains, it’s time to retire your candle. This helps protect the vessel from excessive heat.

Where your Candle Will Be Happiest

Place your candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from draughts, curtains, children and curious pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Beautiful things deserve to be treasured.

Many Wickedly Natural vessels have been chosen because they can enjoy a second life.

Once your candle has finished, you may be able to return the vessel to be carefully cleaned, refilled and enjoyed all over again.

A few simple tips to help you enjoy every burn safely and beautiful and to maximise the life of your candle.

First Burn

Give your vessel candle the best possible beginning by allowing the wax to melt all the way to the edge on it’s first burn. This helps to prevent tunneling and encourages an even burn throughout the life of your candle.
For your pillar candle, on the first burn, allow the wax to go almost to the edge but leaving a rim of around 5mm. To ensure the candle makes a wall to keep the wax enclosed.
